Vaillant is a German manufacturer whose ecoTEC boilers are a common sight in UK kitchens and airing cupboards. If one is on your shortlist, here is what is worth knowing before you go ahead.
Vaillant's gas boilers come under the ecoTEC name. The ecoTEC pro is the simpler combi, the ecoTEC plus adds more output options and system and regular versions, and the ecoTEC exclusive sits at the top with wider modulation. Model names and line-ups change, so check Vaillant's own site for the current list.
Vaillant boilers work particularly well with the brand's own controls, which can modulate the boiler's output rather than just switching it on and off. Weather compensation, using an outdoor sensor, lets the boiler run cooler on mild days. Both can make the house feel more even and reduce wasted gas.
Vaillant has an installer network called Vaillant Advance, and warranty length can vary depending on who fits the boiler and whether it is registered. If you want the longest cover, read Vaillant's terms and ask your installer how it applies to them.
Any Vaillant boiler must be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer and serviced each year to keep the warranty in place.

An ecoTEC boiler shows a status code on its display, and the manual lists what each means. A low pressure reading is the most common reason a boiler stops, and our guide to repressurising a boiler explains how to top it up. In freezing weather, a blocked condensate pipe can also stop it; pouring warm, not boiling, water over the outside pipe usually frees it. If the same code keeps returning, book a repair rather than resetting it again and again, because repeated lockouts are the boiler telling you something is wrong.
