Gas Safe registered 25 years in the trade 12 years running the business
Next door to Briton Ferry
Port Talbot is one of our nearest towns: Briton Ferry sits just across the river from Baglan, so getting to Aberavon, Sandfields or Taibach is straightforward for us. That makes it easy to fit Port Talbot work around other jobs, whether it's a service, a repair or a survey for a new boiler.
You'll deal with Chris, who has 25 years in the trade and has run C Gill Plumbing & Heating for the last 12. His son, a second-year apprentice, works with him. We're Gas Safe registered and family-run.
Seafront, estates and older streets
Port Talbot's housing ranges from the terraces around Taibach and the older parts of Aberavon to the large estates of Sandfields, which were built in the post-war years, and newer homes around Baglan. Many estate houses have had their original heating replaced at least once, so we find everything from back boilers and tanks in the loft to modern combis.
Whatever you have, the starting point is the same: look at how the system works now, find out what's bothering you, and explain the options plainly.
Coastal weather, flues and condensate pipes
Living close to the sea brings its own wear and tear. Salt air and strong winds off the bay are hard on anything outside: flue terminals, external pipework and fixings can corrode faster than they would inland, so we pay particular attention to them during a boiler service.
The other coastal problem is the condensate pipe. Modern condensing boilers drain water through a plastic pipe, and where that runs outside on an exposed wall it can freeze in a cold snap, stopping the boiler. Pipes can also clog with debris over time. Our emergency boiler repair page explains how to thaw a frozen pipe safely; longer-term, rerouting, upsizing or insulating the pipe can stop it happening again.
Landlord gas safety checks
Port Talbot has a good number of rented homes, and landlords are legally required to have the gas appliances they provide checked every year. We carry out the checks and provide the record for the property — see gas safety certificates for what's involved. If the boiler is also due a service, ask about doing both at the same visit; our boiler service cost guide explains how they differ.
Services Port Talbot homeowners ask for
Most Port Talbot enquiries are for a plumber, a boiler service or bathroom fitters. We also handle:
Ring or WhatsApp 07429 632804 with your postcode, a description of the job and a few photos — for boiler work, include the flue outside. Or send the details through our contact page. Quotes are free and there's no obligation. We work Monday to Friday 8am–8pm and Saturday 8am–6pm. See areas we cover for the other towns we serve.
Servicing close to home
Because Port Talbot is so near our base, it's one of the easiest places for us to book a yearly service at a time that suits you, including Saturday mornings. A service is also the right moment to check the condensate pipe and flue terminal for the coastal wear described above, before the first cold spell arrives rather than after the boiler has stopped.
Common questions
Port Talbot plumbing FAQs
Clear answers before you arrange a visit.
My boiler stops every time it freezes. Why?+
It's very often a frozen condensate pipe. We can look at rerouting or insulating it so it's less likely to freeze.
Does sea air affect my boiler?+
It can speed up corrosion on flue terminals and external pipework, which is why we check them carefully during a service.
Can you do gas safety checks for my rented flat in Sandfields?+
Yes. We carry out landlord gas safety checks across Port Talbot and provide the record for the property.
Do you replace old back boilers?+
Yes. Replacing a back boiler usually means choosing a new position and flue route, which we plan during the survey.
