Vaillant Boiler Service and Repair

Vaillant ecoTEC boilers are well-engineered but, like any boiler, they need yearly care and the odd repair. Here is how we approach servicing and fixing them.

Reading the F codes

Vaillant boilers show F codes when something is wrong. Some, like low pressure, you can sort yourself by topping up. Others point to ignition, sensor or fan faults. Note the code before you call, as it helps Chris bring the right parts.

Common Vaillant repairs

  • Pressure loss and expansion vessel issues
  • Ignition and flame failure codes
  • Diverter valve and hot water faults
  • Pump and sensor faults

Servicing an ecoTEC

A service covers combustion checks, the burner and heat exchanger, flue and seals, the condensate trap and the pressure. Keeping service records helps with Vaillant warranty terms. Our boiler servicing page has more.

Controls and settings

Some Vaillant problems are not faults at all but control settings, such as flow temperatures set too low or programmers out of sync. Chris checks these during a visit, which can avoid an unnecessary repair.

Repair or replace?

If your Vaillant is old and a major part has failed, Chris will tell you straight whether a repair is still good value. Our Vaillant boiler installation page covers replacement.

Hot water problems

If your Vaillant combi gives heating but no hot water, or water that runs hot then cold, the cause might be the diverter valve, a flow sensor or a scaled plate heat exchanger. Our no hot water from boiler guide covers the checks you can safely make first.

Pressure topping up

Low pressure is one of the most common reasons a Vaillant stops. Our guide on how to repressurise a boiler shows how to top it up. If the pressure keeps dropping, there is a leak or a fault that needs an engineer.

Service records and warranty

Vaillant's warranty terms generally depend on regular servicing. Keep every service record with the boiler paperwork, as you may need it if a part fails.

Noises from an ecoTEC

Kettling, gurgling or a loud pump can be signs of sludge, air or low pressure. A service and, where needed, a system clean often quietens a noisy boiler. Our boiler making noise guide explains the usual causes.

Older Vaillant models

Plenty of older Vaillant boilers are still working. Chris will check whether parts for your model are still available before recommending a repair, and will tell you honestly if replacement is better value.

Vaillant diverter and hot water faults

On Vaillant combis, problems with hot water often come back to the diverter valve or the plate heat exchanger, especially in hard water areas where scale builds up. If your Vaillant gives heating but lukewarm or fluctuating hot water, note when it happens and how long the taps run before it goes cold.

Vaillant pressure sensor

Many Vaillant boilers use an electronic pressure sensor rather than a simple needle gauge. If the display shows a pressure that looks wrong, or the boiler reports low pressure when the system seems full, the sensor itself may need checking. Chris will test it before recommending a replacement part.

Book a service or repair

Ring or WhatsApp 07429 632804 about your Vaillant, or use the quote form. Tell Chris whether the fault affects heating, hot water or both, and include the F code if one is showing. Our no hot water from boiler guide covers safe checks for hot water faults.

Common questions

Vaillant Boiler Service and Repair FAQs

Clear answers before you arrange a visit.

What does an F code on my Vaillant mean?+

It is a fault code. The manual lists them; note it before calling so Chris knows what to expect.

Can I top up the pressure on a Vaillant myself?+

Usually, yes, using the filling loop. Our guide on repressurising a boiler explains how.

How long does a Vaillant service take?+

It depends on the boiler and what Chris finds, but most of the visit is the checks and cleaning.

Are you a Vaillant Advance installer?+

We are Gas Safe registered and work on Vaillant boilers, but do not claim Advance membership.
