Danger signs come before troubleshooting
If you smell gas, leave danger and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from a safe location. Do not operate electrical switches or test the boiler. A carbon monoxide alarm, suspected fumes or water near electrical equipment also means stopping ordinary checks and seeking urgent appropriate help. Our gas smell guide explains immediate precautions; online forms are not emergency reporting channels.
Use the symptom rather than guessing a part
A boiler that stops, a falling gauge and cold radiators each suggest different starting points, but causes overlap. Record what happens, when it happens and whether heating, hot water or both are affected. Read your exact appliance user manual before adjusting controls. Do not remove the casing or change internal settings. A displayed code describes a detected condition; professional testing establishes what is actually wrong.
Take useful information to the repair enquiry
For boiler repairs, provide the make, model, full displayed message and visible pressure reading. Mention whether the issue began after other work or a control change. If a permitted reset has already been tried, say whether the fault returned rather than repeating the attempt. Use the quote form for ordinary assessment enquiries after safety concerns have been addressed. For quotation scope, see boiler repair cost.
