New boilers in Port Talbot

Boiler Installation in Port Talbot

Port Talbot is practically on our doorstep. Briton Ferry sits just across the river, so getting to homes in Aberavon, Baglan, Sandfields or Taibach for a boiler survey is straightforward, and installations there are some of the easiest jobs for us to fit into the diary.

Gas boilers in Port Talbot homes

Port Talbot has a lot of terraced and semi-detached houses, many with the boiler in the kitchen or a back room. Plenty were converted from older systems years ago, so it is common to find a mix of pipe sizes, a loft tank still in place or a flue that no longer meets today's clearances. Those details shape the quote.

Sandfields, Baglan and the seafront

Homes near the seafront get more salty, damp air, which is hard on flues and outdoor condensate pipes. Chris will look at where the flue terminates and whether the condensate run is exposed to the cold, because a frozen condensate pipe is one of the most common winter call-outs for newer boilers.

Choosing your new boiler

  • A combi for most smaller homes with one bathroom
  • A system boiler with a cylinder for busier households
  • Like-for-like replacement where it makes sense
  • Controls that make the house easier to heat

What happens during installation

The old boiler is taken out, the radiators and pipes are cleaned through, a filter is fitted and the new boiler is installed and commissioned. Chris registers it, explains the controls and shows you how to check the pressure. Our new boiler cost guide explains what affects the final price.

Being close by

Being next door to Port Talbot means Chris can usually pop round for a survey without much waiting, and can come back easily if you have questions after the boiler is in.

Combi conversions in Port Talbot

A common request in Port Talbot is swapping an old regular boiler, with a tank in the loft and a cylinder in the airing cupboard, for a combi. It frees up space and gives hot water on demand. It does mean removing the tanks, capping off redundant pipes and sometimes upgrading the gas pipe. Chris checks your mains water flow first, because a combi is only as good as the water coming into the house.

Pipework and radiators

Older Port Talbot homes sometimes have narrow microbore pipes or radiators that have sat full of sludge for years. A new boiler will not solve a blocked system. Cleaning the system and fitting a magnetic filter protects the new boiler and helps the radiators heat evenly. Where a radiator is past saving, Chris will say so, and our radiator installation page explains replacement.

Gas safety and your paperwork

Every gas boiler installation must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer and registered with building control. After the installation, you should receive a building regulations compliance certificate. Keep it safe with the manufacturer's paperwork, as buyers' solicitors often ask for it when a house is sold.

Taibach, Aberavon and Cwmafan homes

Taibach and Aberavon have rows of older terraced houses where the boiler is often in the kitchen and the flue exits to a rear lane. Further up the valley in Cwmafan, homes are often more exposed to the weather, which affects where the condensate pipe should run. These local details shape the survey and help Chris recommend a suitable position and boiler type.

Questions to ask at the survey

Use the free survey to ask about anything you are unsure of: where the new boiler will sit, whether the flue needs to move, what controls are included, how the old boiler will be removed and what you need to do before installation day. Writing your questions down beforehand makes sure nothing is forgotten.
