Swansea is a short hop along the bay from our Briton Ferry base, and gas and heating work makes up much of what we do there. Whether it is a cold radiator in Sketty or a landlord check in the city centre, the work is carried out by Chris, a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Heating engineers in Swansea
A good heating engineer looks at your system as a whole. Swansea has a lot of older terraces and Victorian houses, where heating has often been added to and changed over the decades. That can leave some rooms too hot and others never warm. Balancing, new valves or better controls often help more than a new boiler.

Student and rented homes
Swansea has many rented houses, especially near the university areas. Landlords must have a gas safety check every year. Our gas safety certificates page explains what is checked and our landlords page explains how to combine it with a service.
Getting more from your heating
Thermostatic radiator valves, a programmable room thermostat and a balanced system can make a real difference in a draughty older house. Our central heating page covers the options, and our guide on how to balance radiators shows why it matters.
Gas safety at home
If you smell gas, open windows, do not use switches and call 0800 111 999. A carbon monoxide alarm near any gas appliance is a sensible precaution.
Uplands, Brynmill and older houses
In the older parts of Swansea, such as Uplands and Brynmill, many houses have tall rooms, single-glazed bay windows and radiators that were sized decades ago. Heating them evenly takes more thought. Sometimes a larger radiator in the coldest room, or moving the thermostat out of a warm hallway, makes the biggest difference. Chris will suggest practical changes rather than a whole new system.
Checking an engineer's card
Before anyone works on gas in your home, ask to see their Gas Safe ID card. The front shows their photo and licence number; the back lists what they are qualified to work on. You can check the number on the Gas Safe Register website. A genuine engineer will be happy for you to check.
If you are adding an extension or converting a room in Swansea, think about heating early. Extending the radiator circuit, fitting underfloor heating or adding a towel rail all affect what the boiler has to do. See our underfloor heating page for one option.
From Morriston to Mumbles
Swansea's housing changes a lot across the city. Morriston and Clydach have many terraced and semi-detached homes; Sketty and Killay have larger family houses; Mumbles and the Gower edge include older properties with chimneys that may still have gas fires connected. Each brings different gas work, from boiler swaps in tight terrace kitchens to safety checks on fires that have not been used for years.
Cookers, hobs and fires
Alongside boilers, Chris can talk to you about other gas appliances. Our gas cooker and hob installation page explains what connecting a cooker involves, and gas fire servicing covers the checks a fire needs, particularly in older Swansea homes with original chimneys.
