Boiler Installation in Neath

Neath is the town closest to our base on Church Street in Briton Ferry, and new boilers are the job we do most. This page explains how we approach installations in Neath homes specifically.

Installing boilers close to home

Being local helps on an installation. Chris can call round to survey without it taking a whole day, nip back if a part needs collecting, and return after the fit if you have a question about the controls. You deal with him from the first phone call to the handover, with his son, a second-year apprentice, working alongside.

Chris is Gas Safe registered, has 25 years in the trade and has spent the last 12 running C Gill Plumbing & Heating.

What Neath houses tend to need

Neath has a lot of older terraced housing, plenty of it stone-built, alongside inter-war and post-war semis and newer estates on the edges of town. In older terraces the boiler is often in the kitchen or a back bedroom, with a flue through the rear wall into a narrow lane or yard. The flue position has to meet the rules on distances from windows, doors and boundaries, so a new boiler cannot always go exactly where the old one was.

On hillside streets in the valley villages around Neath, back gardens can sit well above or below the house. That affects where the condensate pipe can drain and how a flue can be routed, so Chris looks at both carefully on the survey.

Condensate pipes in a cold snap

Every modern gas boiler produces condensate, which runs away through a plastic pipe. Where that pipe has to run outside, especially on exposed rear walls, it can freeze in hard weather and stop the boiler. We plan the route to keep the outside section as short as practical, use a suitable pipe size and insulate it where needed.

Old systems and new boilers

Many Neath homes still have older heating systems with a tank in the loft and a cylinder in the airing cupboard. Replacing them with a combi frees up the cupboard and the loft, but means removing redundant pipework and checking the mains water can support it. Our combi boiler installation page explains when that switch makes sense.

Older systems also tend to carry sludge. Cleaning the system and fitting a filter before the new boiler goes on helps it last.

Gas central heating and larger properties

If you are adding gas central heating to a home that does not have it, or you are asking about a boiler for a non-domestic building, call Chris to talk it through. Most of our installation work is for homeowners, and he will tell you straight away whether your job is one we can take on.

Do you take away the old boiler?+

Yes. The old boiler is removed as part of the installation.
