A new boiler is a large bill, and it often arrives when the old one has just failed. Spreading the cost can help, but it is worth understanding how boiler finance works before you sign anything.

How boiler finance usually works
Most boiler finance in the UK is a fixed-sum loan arranged through the installer with a lender authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. You agree the installation price, apply for credit for some or all of it, and repay in monthly instalments over an agreed term. The lender, not the installer, decides whether to approve you.
Some people instead use savings, a credit card, a personal loan from their bank or a mortgage further advance. Each has different costs and risks.
Things to check before agreeing
The total amount you will repay, not just the monthly figure
The interest rate and whether it is fixed for the whole term
Whether there is a fee for paying off early
That a credit check will be run and may show on your file
That the boiler price is the same whether you pay cash or borrow
Can finance be arranged with C Gill & Son?
Ask Chris when he quotes. He will tell you straight whether finance can be arranged for your installation. Either way, you will get a written quotation for the work first, so you can compare it with other ways of paying.
Grants and schemes
Some households may qualify for government or energy-company help with heating, depending on income, benefits and the property. Schemes change often, so check the official GOV.UK and Nest Wales pages for what is open now before relying on one.
Keeping the cost down
Choosing the right size and type of boiler for your home makes the biggest difference to the price. A like-for-like replacement in the same spot is usually simpler than moving it or converting systems. Our new boiler cost guide explains what pushes the price up or down, and our boiler installation page describes the survey.
Start with a quote
Whatever way you plan to pay, the first step is a free, no-obligation quote. Request one on our new boiler quote page or call 07429 632804.
Questions to ask any installer
Whether or not you borrow, a few questions help you compare quotes fairly. Ask exactly which boiler model and output is included, whether the price covers a system clean, filter and new controls, and what happens if extra work is found on the day. Check who registers the boiler with building control and the manufacturer. If finance is offered, ask for the credit agreement in writing and take time to read it at home rather than signing on the doorstep. A good installer will be happy to give you that space, and the quote should not change because you need a few days to decide.
Common questions
Boiler Finance Information FAQs
Clear answers before you arrange a visit.
Does boiler finance affect my credit score?+
Applying normally involves a credit check that is recorded on your file, and missed payments would affect it. Check the lender's terms before applying.
Can I pay off boiler finance early?+
Many loans allow it, sometimes with a small charge. The credit agreement will say, so read that section before signing.
Is it cheaper to pay for a boiler outright?+
Paying outright avoids interest, so it usually costs less overall. Finance spreads the cost but adds to the total unless the rate is zero.
Who approves a boiler finance application?+
The lender. The installer may introduce you, but the lending decision and agreement are between you and the finance company.
