Ideal Boiler Service and Repair

Ideal Logic boilers are common in homes across South Wales. Whether yours needs its yearly service or has stopped working, this page explains what usually goes wrong and how we handle it.

Ideal fault codes

Ideal boilers display a letter and number when they lock out, and the user guide explains them. Low pressure, ignition failure and blocked condensate are among the most common. A single reset is fine, but a code that keeps coming back needs an engineer.

Typical Ideal repairs

  • Ignition and flame detection faults
  • Blocked condensate pipes in winter
  • Pressure loss from leaks or expansion vessel problems
  • Hot water faults on combis

What the service covers

Chris inspects the burner and heat exchanger, takes flue gas readings, checks seals, the flue and safety devices, cleans the condensate trap and checks the pressure. You get a service record for your warranty file. More on our boiler servicing page.

Frozen condensate pipes

Ideal boilers, like all condensing boilers, can stop when the outside condensate pipe freezes. Pouring warm, not boiling, water over it usually frees it. If it keeps happening, the pipe may need rerouting or insulating.

Repair or replace?

If an Ideal is reaching the end of its life, Chris will tell you honestly. Our Ideal boiler installation page covers replacement options.

Noises from an Ideal boiler

Gurgling, banging or whistling from an Ideal boiler often points to air in the system, sludge in the heat exchanger or a pump problem. Some noise comes from the radiators rather than the boiler itself. Our guide to a boiler making noise explains what each sound usually means.

Before you book

Note the fault code, the model name on the data label and what the boiler was doing when it stopped. Check the pressure and whether the condensate pipe outside is frozen. These details help Chris diagnose faster and bring the right parts on the first visit.

Keeping service records

Ideal, like other manufacturers, generally asks for proof of annual servicing if you need to make a warranty claim. Keep each service record together with the boiler's paperwork.

Pressure and leaks on an Ideal

An Ideal boiler that keeps needing its pressure topped up usually has a leak on the system or a failing component inside. Look under radiators and around valves for drips. If you cannot find it, Chris will trace it rather than keep topping up.

How a repair visit runs

Chris checks the code, the pressure and the controls first, then tests the likely parts. He tells you what is wrong and what the repair involves before any work starts.

Ideal condensate and flue checks

Ideal boilers, like most condensing boilers, produce condensate that must drain away freely. A blocked trap or frozen outside pipe is a common reason for an Ideal lockout in winter. During a service, Chris checks the trap and the condensate route, along with the flue terminal and seals, so these issues are spotted early.

Ideal fan and ignition faults

Ideal boilers that try to light, fail and lock out can have problems with the ignition lead, the electrode, the fan or the gas valve. The display code points the engineer in the right direction, but testing each component is what confirms the fault before any part is ordered.

Book a service or repair

To book an Ideal boiler service or repair, call or WhatsApp 07429 632804, or send details through the quote form. A photo of the data badge and the fault code on screen is especially useful. If the boiler will not light at all, read our boiler not firing up guide first.

Common questions

Ideal Boiler Service and Repair FAQs

Clear answers before you arrange a visit.

How often should an Ideal boiler be serviced?+

Once a year, which is also usually needed to keep the warranty valid.

Why does my Ideal boiler keep locking out?+

Common reasons are low pressure, ignition faults or a blocked condensate pipe. Repeated lockouts need an engineer.

Can you repair an Ideal Logic combi?+

Yes. Chris works on Ideal boilers and will explain the fault first.

Are you an Ideal approved installer?+

We are Gas Safe registered and work on Ideal boilers, but do not claim manufacturer approval.
