Gas work has to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and that is exactly what Chris is. For Bridgend households we take on central heating, gas safety checks and boiler work as planned visits from our base in Briton Ferry.

What a gas engineer does
A gas engineer installs, services and repairs gas appliances and pipework, including boilers, hobs and fires. Anyone doing this work legally must be on the Gas Safe Register. You can ask to see an engineer's ID card, which shows the categories of work they are qualified for.

Gas safety checks
If you let a property in Bridgend, an annual gas safety check is a legal requirement. Chris checks each gas appliance, flue and the pipework and gives you the record. Our gas safety certificates page explains the process.
Central heating that suits the house
Bridgend homes range from compact new builds to older semis with long pipe runs. Each heats differently. Chris looks at the whole system, not just the boiler, and our central heating page explains the upgrades available. If radiators stay cold, read our guide on radiators not heating up.
Planned visits
Because Bridgend sits towards the edge of our area, we book work there ahead. That gives Chris time to bring the right parts and finish the job properly.
Carbon monoxide and gas safety
Carbon monoxide has no smell or colour, so a CO alarm near any gas appliance is a sensible step. Signs a gas appliance is not burning properly include a yellow or orange flame on older appliances, soot or staining, and condensation in the room. If you suspect a problem, stop using the appliance and call. If you smell gas, call 0800 111 999 first.
Controls and thermostats
Many heating complaints in Bridgend homes come from controls rather than the boiler: a thermostat in a warm hallway, timers set wrongly after a power cut, or radiator valves that have stuck. Chris can move or replace a thermostat, fit thermostatic radiator valves and explain how to set the programmer so the house is warm when you need it.
When the boiler is the problem
If the heating issue turns out to be the boiler, Chris will tell you whether a repair makes sense. For yearly checks, our boiler service in Bridgend page explains what is involved, and if replacement is better value, see boiler installation in Bridgend.
Gas safety for landlords in Bridgend
Rented homes in Bridgend need a gas safety check every year, with a copy of the record given to tenants. Our landlords page explains how to combine the check with a boiler service so you only need one visit and one date to remember.
Working across Bridgend County
Bridgend work for us ranges from the town itself to Pencoed, Pyle, Kenfig Hill, Porthcawl and the valleys towards Maesteg. Porthcawl's seafront properties can see more corrosion on outdoor flue terminals and condensate pipes because of salt air, so these are worth a close look during any gas visit. Bridgend jobs are usually best booked as planned work.
Gas appliances beyond the boiler
A gas engineer's work is not limited to boilers. Gas cookers, hobs and gas fires all need a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, move or service them. Our gas cooker and hob installation and gas fire servicing pages explain what those jobs involve.
