When water is coming through the ceiling in Swansea, the first few minutes matter more than who you call. This page explains what to do straight away, then how to reach us from Briton Ferry, a short hop along the bay.

Typical urgent jobs in Swansea
Burst pipes after a cold snap, leaking cylinders, a toilet that will not stop running, and boilers that have stopped completely are the calls that tend to be urgent. Older terraced streets in the city often have pipes running through cold spaces where freezing is more likely.
Burst pipes
A burst can be a pinhole or a split. Once the water is off, Chris can cut out the damaged section and replace it. Our burst pipe repair page explains what happens.
Heating and hot water
If the boiler has failed, check the pressure gauge and display before calling. Our guide to a boiler not working lists the safe checks.
Leaking hot water cylinders
A leaking cylinder in the airing cupboard can let out a lot of water. Turn off the cold supply to the cylinder, usually a valve on the pipe at the top or bottom, and switch off the immersion heater and boiler. Then call. Our hot water cylinder installation page explains replacement if the cylinder cannot be repaired.
Overflowing toilets and tanks
If a toilet keeps filling or water pours from an overflow pipe outside, the float valve has usually failed. Turn off the isolating valve on the pipe to the cistern, or the stop tap if there is none. It is rarely dangerous, but water outside can cause damp, so get it looked at soon.
Getting ready for winter
The best emergency is the one that never happens. Lag pipes in lofts and garages, know where your stop tap is and check it turns, and keep the heating on low if you go away in cold weather. If you are a landlord in Swansea, show tenants where the stop tap is when they move in.
What we may not be able to do
Some urgent jobs need a specialist, such as a blocked main drain or a sewer problem. If your call is about something outside plumbing and heating, Chris will tell you straight away so you can get the right help quickly.
Know where your stop tap is
In many older Swansea terraces, the internal stop tap is under the kitchen sink, but in some it is in a front-room cupboard, under the stairs or even under a floorboard near the front door. Find it now, before you need it, and check that it turns. A stop tap that has not been used for years can seize, and that is the moment you will need it to work.
Flats and shared supplies
If you live in a flat in the city centre, Sketty or the Maritime Quarter, your water may come through a shared supply. A leak in one flat can affect others, and the stop tap may be in a communal cupboard. Speak to your managing agent about where the shutoffs are, and keep that information somewhere easy to find.
