Commercial Boiler Service and Gas Safety
Shops, offices, cafés and small workplaces rely on their heating and hot water just as much as homes do. If you look after a gas boiler in business premises around Neath, Port Talbot or Swansea, here is what servicing and gas safety involve, and how to ask us about it.

What counts as commercial
Commercial gas work covers appliances in non-domestic premises. That ranges from a domestic-sized boiler in a small office to large plant rooms with multiple boilers. Engineers need the right Gas Safe categories for the type and size of appliance, so it is important to ask before booking.
Ask us first
Our main work is in homes. If you have a boiler in a small business, call 07429 632804 and describe it. Chris will tell you honestly whether it is work he can take on, and if not, you will know quickly so you can find the right engineer.
What a service covers
Combustion checks and burner inspection
Flue, ventilation and safety device checks
Controls, pressure and leak checks
A written record for your files
What is a commercial gas safety certificate?
Unlike landlords of homes, business owners are not usually handed one standard certificate format. But employers and those in control of premises have a legal duty to keep gas appliances safe. A regular safety inspection and record from a suitably qualified engineer is the usual way to show that. For rented homes, see our gas safety certificates page.
Repairs and breakdowns
If a boiler in your premises breaks down, call and explain the problem. Our boiler repairs page describes how Chris approaches faults, and our boiler servicing page covers routine checks.
Records for your premises
Keeping a simple log of gas safety inspections, services and repairs helps you show you are meeting your duties. Insurers and landlords of commercial premises may also ask for it. Keep the most recent records somewhere easy to find, and note when the next check is due.
Mixed-use buildings
Some properties have a shop downstairs and a flat above. The flat, if let, needs a landlord gas safety record each year, while the shop's appliances fall under the general duty on whoever controls the premises. Chris can explain how the checks apply to your building when you call.
Choosing the right engineer
For any commercial job, ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card and check the back, which lists the categories of work they are qualified to carry out. Commercial categories differ from domestic ones. If the job needs a commercial specialist, Chris will tell you rather than take on something outside his categories.
Hot water in workplaces
Staff kitchens, washrooms and small cafés depend on reliable hot water. Water heaters and cylinders in business premises need the same care as boilers. If hot water is part of what you need looked at, mention it when you call so Chris can say whether it suits him.
What to have ready for the visit
Before the visit, find any previous service records, the boiler's make and model and details of who else uses the plant room or boiler area. Clear access is important, particularly where boilers are in storerooms or above suspended ceilings. If there are opening hours when the work would disrupt customers or staff, mention them when you book so the visit can be planned around them.
Small premises we are asked about
Enquiries we get tend to come from small shops, offices, salons, cafés and flats above shops, many of which run domestic-sized boilers. Larger plant rooms, commercial catering equipment and multi-boiler installations involve different qualifications, so ask first and Chris will tell you straight away whether the job is one he can take on.
